Next up in our Meet The Team series, Senior Account Manager Gemma. We’re sure you’ll love her as much as we do!
What is your professional background?
My background is in public relations. I have a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations) from RMIT University and have worked for arts, entertainment and lifestyle PR firms.
The great thing about social media is the opportunity to utilise the brand building and communication techniques I learned throughout my experiences in PR and reflect these through digital brand strategy and campaign development. Understanding relationship management with customers, affiliates, employees and the general public, as well as crisis management, definitely comes in handy!
What is your favourite digital platform?
I am currently addicted to Pinterest. When I enter a Pinterest wormhole I may not come out for a good 2 hours. It’s amazing what you can find, plus it was great for Christmas present ideas!
If you could give someone only one piece of advice regarding social media, what would it be?
Think of your social media platforms as another shop, venue or reception desk of your business. Treat followers as you would in-store customers or face-to-face clients and translate that customer service through online interaction. Engage with them in conversation, try to learn about them and their needs, offer advice and assistance, and give them a personal experience by offering them insight into the business. Never ignore a comment or question and take feedback from them as if they were standing there in front of you.
Your social media platforms reflect your brand just as much as the physical assets of your business. Once you realise this, you will see the value and opportunity that social media facilitates.
Who is your favourite person/brand/group to follow online and why?
This might sound biased, but the Social Media Servants Facebook page is an ever insightful source of information. The talented people I work with continually educate me, plus as a social media junkie, the relevant articles and tips that are shared on the page make it my go-to place for industry information.
Rekorderlig Cider – Australia is also a great source of inspiration. They’re always running new, creative campaigns that get their community involved.
What do you love about working at Social Media Servants?
The pinball machine! No, it’s definitely the people.
Each day I am surrounded by a fun, enthusiastic, talented and dedicated team. The support and encouragement that you receive as a ‘Social Media Servant’ is second to none. Everyone is there to help you achieve your goals whether they’re professional or personal. Throughout the week we set aside time for personal development and business education. We are all continually growing and striving for bigger and better things, and this is reflected in the way we treat our clients. We want the best for them too, and will go above and beyond to see them meet their goals.
Plus pinball tournaments just wouldn’t be the same without them!
If you could go anywhere in the world (and universe), where would it be and why?
I would go to the year 2064 and see how social media has advanced/taken over the world! It will be interesting to see how traditional media and advertising will fare in the future and I’d love to get some tips and tricks on how we can utilise digital to build brands.
Having said that, I wouldn’t mind heading to a futuristic Mediterranean beach resort and doing my research from there…
